When searching for a venue for their November 11, 2023, wedding, Jerica and Scott wanted “something outdoorsy and rustic, but not a barn,” says Jerica about her dream locale.
They also wanted a spot that “would allow for fun activities like yard games and board games. I was specifically envisioning a cottage in an enchanted forest, and we were able to find all that and more at Camp Sacajawea,” she says.
The 200-acre campground is full of forest paths and has a beautiful lake. They rented the campground for their wedding weekend, and some guests stayed in the on-site cabins. The main reception area “is already decorated like a tavern from a fantasy movie,” says Jerica.
For their color scheme, they chose dark green with accents of rust orange. “We definitely added a lot of ‘cottagecore’ aesthetics to the decor and kept it all very nature inspired, with a lot of moss, mushrooms, flowers [and] tree stumps,” says Jerica.
What’s a campground wedding without some outdoor activities? For an additional fee, the venue provided experienced instructors who guided archery and axe-throwing sessions before the reception.
“We did an hour and a half of cocktail time to provide more time for the guests to do the games,” says Jerica. “The guests loved it! We got so many compliments about how unique and fun it was.”
Included with the venue were cornhole, giant Jenga and a large bonfire pit. The couple carried the idea of interactive games into the reception by setting up a board game room next to the bar.
“For those who may not like small talk or dancing,” explains Jerica, “it gave them a space to grab a few friends and play a quick game.”
